Tanmay Bichu, an active performer in various Indian Classical and World Music concerts in India and the US, recently shone at four prominent concerts within India and the US. Since the start of the year, he has showcased his remarkable tabla skills at a fully sold-out solo Kathak performance in January while accompanying internationally acclaimed Kathak dancer Smt. Shambhavi Dandekar and performance with Pt. Raghunandan Panshikar at Pune in March. A Ustaad Ali Akbar Khan Tribute concert in San Francisco in April, and at the 3-day long Indian Classical Music Festival – Ashavari Festival 2024 in May 2024 in California.
Tanmay Bichu takes the international stage
Interestingly, Tanmay has been invited to perform for several upcoming concerts at BMM – North America Marathi Convention to showcase the skillful depth, rich tradition, and unmatched melody of Indian classical music. A noteworthy upcoming event is the BMM Convention – the biennial North America Marathi Convention showcasing artists from North America and India.
At the Convention this year that is set to be held in the San Francisco Bay Area, Tanmay will be performing in 3 concerts before a whopping 5000+ attendees from the USA and Canada.
Tanmay will be a part of the Jasrangi concert featuring a vocal duet by Vidushi Ashwini Bhide Deshpande and Pandit Sanjeev Abhyankar. This is the main Indian classical concert of this convention and Tanmay will be accompanying them on the Tabla.
It is noteworthy that Tanmay is the only artist in this concert who is based in the US, while all other artists have been invited from India. He will also be playing tabla for “Melodic Science” – a concert featuring vocalist Abhishek Kale from Sangli, India who has been invited to perform at the convention.
This concert will educate the audience on the science behind Indian music with live musical demonstrations. Moreover, Tanmay will further play the tabla at the “Mystic Healing through the Vedas” concert by the local artists of the San Francisco Bay Area. This concert is aimed at drawing parallels between Ayurveda, Indian Classical Vocal Music and Kathak Dance, showing how the core concepts of all of these originate from the Vedas.
Tanmay will also be performing at several other concerts internationally and in India throughout the year. In June, he will be accompanying Ashwin Baliga, a vocalist from Virginia, USA for his concert in the Bay Area.
Following it, he will be performing alongside sitar maestro Pt. Partho Chatterjee for his concert in July. In the same month, he will also be playing a tabla solo in the Ali Akbar College of Music Gurupournima celebration concert along with accompanying young Sarod artist Hriday Buddhadev from Canada and vocalist Preeti Tamhankar from the Bay Area at a concert organized by Saraswati School of Music.
